NVS iPad case
Friday, 07 January 2011
Made from genuine hand-made leather, the case feels well made.
The iPad slips into a retainer along the bottom, and is held over the top two corners by little diagonal straps, making the iPad fit securely.
The bump-stops are solid get giving, and of course when you close the case, they run down either side of the iPad’s screen, meaning the main area of glass is held at a couple of of millimetres distance. This adds to the bulk of the case when closed, but again, makes me feel more secure about the cushioning and protection offered by the case overall.
When you close it, a popper button holds it so. Opening it puts the bump stops out towards you and then simply folds over to rest at the position you want. It’s tidy and easy to use.
My previous favourite case was the Apple iPad case, but this is more configurable and more padded, so while it adds a it of bulk to an iPad, it certainly makes you feel more secure, and the way you can stand the screen up in horizontal mode is great if you have a Bluetooth keyboard and you’re using an iPad as a communications device and viewer – say, if you’re travelling.
What's great — well made, well padded
What's not — more garishly green than appears in these pictures
Needs — a traveller who wants protection.
What — NVS iPad cases, RRP $99.95, available in green and orange.
Available from — Apple resellers and electronics retailers
System — handmade leather iPad case with padding, lets you angle the iPad in landscape orientation at any of four angles.
Free NVS case to make your friends envious
That’s right, I have an orange version of the NVS iPad case to give away, thanks to MacGear.
To enter the random draw to win it, you’ll just have to send me an email from the Shiny&New section of MagBytes out the last Thursday of January 2011 with ‘N V S’ in the subject line.
Issue 14 of MagBytes will have more info on the Mac App store, plus the usual month's worth of great Mac tips.
Remember, to get MagBytes completely free, no obligation, every last Thursday of the month, you just have to join the completely private and staunchly protected MagBytes email list – I personally send it out to hundreds of NZ and overseas subscribers every month.
To join the list: easy – just email email@example.com. You don’t need to write anything, although you might like to put ‘MagBytes NVS’ in the subject line.
Remember, you don’t have to pay anything for MagBytes. Ever. And if you change your mind, just send ‘opt out’ to the same email address and it stops coming.
Giveaway terms and Conditions: to enter the draw to win an orange NVS iPad case, your name must be on my private and secure, jealously guarded email list as a MagBytes Subscriber.
You can enter the competition if you haven’t subscribed and someone has just passed on a MagBytes #14 pdf to you (which is perfectly acceptable), but I will add you to the subscriber list if you send me an email to enter and you're not a current subscriber – until you opt out.
All current subscribers are already eligible – they just send an email from the same page in MagBytes 14 in the same way,
