Mac spyware confirmed

Friday, 04 June 2010

Onion spyware confirmed for Mac: The spyware in question is called OSX/OpinionSpy and it’s a new variant of Windows spyware that has existed since 2008.
This link (to The Guardian) offers a manual method to remove the spyware which was installed with the screen savers from 7art, or other infected applications which may have been installed.
To see if you're affected, run Activity Monitor (pic – it's in /Applications/Utilities) and set it to show All Processes in the dropdown menu. Look for a process called 'PremierOpinion' which will be owned by root. If it's there, you've been affected.
Mac OS Hints has more info.

New Mac game (also in iPad edition): This new and bizarre adventure is now accessible on your Mac, PC, PS3, and iPad.
If you’re not up to speed on Sam & Max, they have a television show, a collection of comics, and the last two seasons from Telltale.
New Gameplay Aspects
This season marks the change in the series from point-and-click to direct control gameplay. While there has been some push-back from the adventure gaming faithful, this new control scheme allows for more cinematic camera angles and new ways of interacting with the game. You can control Sam with either the traditional WASD method or by clicking and dragging your mouse around to simulate a joystick.

It's Five-tip Friday I mean 10-tip Friday! My hard drive carked it last week just before I could post Five Tip Friday so, in compensation and to keep you happy over the long weekend, here are ten tips. Enjoy.
(And Wired Dog's Nick Reynolds fixed and I had it back by Saturday – no data was lost as I have backups. Yay!)
