The direct links to the various versions of the updates for download, rather than going through Software Update, are as follows:
Aspyr releases Rage Campaign Edition for Mac — For US$39.99 you can now buy this first person shooter online. RAGE (pic) is a violent first-person shooter set in the future after an asteroid impacts Earth, leaving a ravaged world behind, and it's from the makers of Doom and Quake.
You emerge into a vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against bandit gangs, mutants, and the Authority – an oppressive government regime that has a special interest in you in particular. Featuring intense first-person shooter action, breakneck vehicle combat, an expansive world to explore – if you
buy it now (via GameAgent or the Mac App Store), you can get Doom for a dollar.
Rage needs 10.7.2 (Lion), an Intel Core 2 Duo at least running at 2.4GHz+, 4GB RAM and 25GB hard drive space.
Strange Apple event? According to a new rumour from Japanese site Macotakara, Apple is planning to hold an event in February. However, despite the fact that many people would immediately place this event in the context of a launch event for the iPad 3, the site is reporting that this is not a product launch event (via
MacRumors). Instead, they are describing it as a ‘Strange’ Apple event, which, as you’ll appreciate, is a very ‘strange’ description.
[I thought releasing something new at the Guggenheim in New York was odd already.]
Security update for Snow Leopard; update to Apple Remote Desktop — Security Update 2012-001 (Snow Leopard) (and the corresponding server edition) is recommended for all Snow Leopard users. The update addresses security issues.
The Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.2 update addresses issues with screen sharing, Apple says. The update fixes authentication when using Kerberos, or when logging in as a user with no password. It also fixes problems controlling a remote computer with two displays, when the primary display is on the right.
Both updates are available through Apple’s
Support site as well as the Mac OS X’s Software Update.
